The glossy images and animated GIFs don’t make a striking difference to a website as it has become such a common trend in most of the sites. So, how can you create a lasting effect on your users?

A unique and appealing website is no more an option. Instead, having a site with poor navigation and design mistakes can cause businesses to lose customers, which means money out the door. Unfortunately, it occurs at an alarming frequency, and you get very little time to handle such situations. Many small business owners design their websites to save money and have more control over the project. But it may amaze you as here are some of the most common design mistakes which you make to impress users.

1. Too much Innovation:

‘Designing is an art and Designer is an artist’ and also they express themselves with their art/work. Designers keep innovating with the designs in every way possible to find the best fit and have a design that stands out in the crowd. But, Innovation is not always the best option if you are talking about interaction with the users.

Usually, the main motive is to make viewers feel comfortable with the website. Such as typical navigation patterns in any website which gives viewers familiarity with how a website works. So, being basic is more critical than being unique, or else you will go off track.

2. Navigation Errors:

It is one of the most common mistakes we see on most websites nowadays. Such sites offer a great experience of designing and working, but poor navigation messes up everything, and the user doesn’t want to stay on your website anymore.

But the more significant problem that users face is the typical names for the most popular pages of a website. So, instead of using the simple and understandable “home, about, contact and blog” pattern, users see “our universe, the theory of an artist, follow your stars, always learn more” and much more.

3. Avoiding White Spaces:

Today, ads are the evil in the web design world, whether it is a blog page, the home page. It doesn’t just ruin the design and visibility of your website but also makes it look ugly, and these noisy/flashy ads will frustrate your viewers and may cause you loss in the business.

Though ads are also a source of income but have a close look at your website and observe if any ad annoys you, then it will do the same with your viewers. It is crucial that they should not cover up all the white space on the website. Viewers like to see only relevant content. The side pop-ups and irritating full-screen sized ads should be removed to enhance your website design.

4. Improper use of Contrast with ugly images:

Both images and graphics are an integral part of web designing. So, it becomes vital to use them properly. For example, every user is smart enough to understand, and the more prominent button is more relevant than the small one.

So, why not use the visual hierarchy which will act as a guide for users and tell them where to go? It is also essential to attract the user’s attention to the places where you want them to. It’s not the thing about colors, different sizes and shapes, and placement. The most efficient and proper use of Contrast in a website takes it to another level and subtly shows its value and importance.

5. Complexity:

The complexity of any website comes from its complex content or complicated forms that require users to fill in data for future reference. It is a necessary evil which sometimes cannot be avoided. But they don’t need to look ugly, first figure out the most genuine and interesting questions which grabs the user’s attention. Try to make them incredible and straightforward and target the necessary information first, such as first name, last name, email, etc.

You can make a few questions as optional to reduce complexity for the user. All the designs need to be tested as the motive is to think about efficiency and user first. It will make your design both successful and pretty.

6. Improper use of Contact Info:

Strangely, the lack of contact information has been one of the most common mistakes which any designer would do while designing a website. The entire thing to consider how and where to display contact information/ Contact Us Page on the site that the user easily views it. It should always be ‘One Click Away’ from the users.

As most of the viewers look for contact information after they are browsing a website so it should either be on the topmost or the bottom of every page which a user browses.

7. A terrible CTA:

‘Your CTA is the main gateway to your business’ as it tells your viewers to do something such as Click here, Get a free coupon and much more. It gets very vital that your CTA is efficient and precise, which tells the viewers what to do. It can either be a beneficial hand for customers or a very annoying one; it all depends on how you use it.

Keep form-filling to a minimum as it is the least bothered thing on a site, then give the viewer a few minutes on the website before your CTA shows up!

8. Keep missing your targets:

If you are a small business, then you realize how important it is to attract viewers to your website. You may spend hours making your site suitable for all types of people and end up creating a mess for yourself. So, it is better to target the audience and cater to them.

When you target a particular audience, you will be able to know their needs and design accordingly, which will enhance your preference.
